I’ve been in hiding in real life as well as on Instagram lately because, as they say in the south, I’ve been “up to my ears in alligators.” Not complaining, just explaining that I’ll be taking more time off from posting before coming back stronger than ever. 👊✨✨✨

💖 The baking soda in our refrigerator — my new hero! and literally why I’m still alive. 🙏 We had a kitchen fire last week, and I grabbed baking soda because it was a faster reach than the fire extinguisher. Christmas trees will be here soon. Keep your friend baking soda handy. 💁‍♀️
.
.
💖 I’m grateful I just learned it’s easy to overuse whitening strips, before I destroyed my tooth enamel. My dentist told me I should try peroxide or my buddy baking soda instead.

💖 My husband’s sweet disposition and tendency to forgive mistakes is such a blessing. I will be forever mortified that I completely forgot his birthday this week. To say that my mind has been overloaded is no excuse.

💖 Some people may look down on three people living in 649 square feet. But I’m grateful for all the love in our cozy, little home. 🍀🏡

As a Caregiver for someone with extremely low immunity I’ve tried to be extra diligent about social distancing, and haven’t been out much recently. It’s been challenging to practice self care. But there’s power in prayer, and 🌈I would appreciate your prayers now. 💓🙏… After a radiologist recently told her doctor he thinks he sees cancer, I’ve worked harder at relaxing. These are uncertain times. The only thing I have control over is my response.

When I got home after this picture was taken I noticed something crazy-fun in the background that I had previously missed (in another photo, taken from a different angle, with different light). Guess I was so mesmerized by the iconic dresses of Oscar de La Rente that I never noticed the hidden face in the painting behind me. (Slide 2 😲🤭✨✨✨) .

Coronavirus restrictions will be lightened soon in my home state of Georgia. But I plan to keep the tradition of saying this prayer before I start my day. It has brought me comfort and helped me keep worry at bay during our mandatory shut-in. I hope it can help you too. 🙏💓

The story goes that a brigade of soldiers in WWI recited this very special passage first thing every morning. I read that after they started this prayer ritual they were involved in three of the bloodiest battles in WW1, yet not one of them died.

Thank you for all the sweet messages asking why I’ve been so quiet lately on social media. 💓💓 I tend to hide when I need to get stuff done, even if that stuff is heavy duty thinking about life. Yup. Then much to my horror last week my doctor said, “You have high cholesterol, and I’m going to recommend medication unless you can immediately bring it down through a better diet and lifestyle changes.”😱… He proceeded to tell me that exercising 30 minutes a day can drop my cholesterol (?!) and that I need to lower my sugary, fatty, salty foods and eat more fiber and whole grains.

I try to make it a practice to focus my brain like a camera on things that make me feel grateful. On that note, slides 1 and 2 are old sailing ships I photographed on daily walks around my beautiful downtown Savannah. It’s nice to call such a visually enchanting place home… What makes me grateful in slide 3? I appreciate the comfort Valen-Tino usually gives me. A serious faced museum docent @scadmoa told me the marble “Infiniti Chair” by @_pedro_reyes_ is “about creating a sense of community and making it easy and interesting to take a seat and talk to your neighbor.” I sat in silence for a bit enjoying all the swirly shadows this magnificent sculpture creates before asking, “Are you also saying the most important thing about art is that it is an individual experience, subject to my own interpretation?” 👀🤓🧐 .

The companion blog to mine is written by my husband @iamnotoldnews . Tommy was an editor for the city of Savannah’s newspaper before he recently reinvented himself as a travel and food photojournalist. I never dreamed we would start a business together, but everything instantly changed after he suffered a stroke… If there’s a silver lining to hardship, it’s that the stroke brought us closer. 💍👰🤵🏻 Plus, how lucky am I that ever since he’s been working from home he’s been cooking? On that note, Hubby’s been adding strawberries to our desserts and smoothies recently, so we shared a smile when we saw this Savannah building (an empty former restaurant).
